Consisto Meet & Live Classroom Policy

Overview: Consisto Meet provides real-time video classrooms for interactive educational delivery. This Policy governs WebRTC audio/video transmission, participant token authentication, attendance scoring, screen sharing, and live classroom privacy.

1. WebRTC Infrastructure & LiveKit Cloud

Consisto Meet leverages enterprise LiveKit Cloud WebRTC infrastructure to provide scalable, production-grade real-time video, audio, and screen sharing capabilities. All communication channels are encrypted in transit using standard WebRTC security protocols (DTLS-SRTP).

Access to live classrooms is strictly gated through server-signed, short-lived JSON Web Tokens (JWT). Client applications receive tokens containing restricted room claims and identity grants. Meeting room identifiers are managed securely on the server and are never publicly exposed or rendered in client-side HTML or DOM elements.

2. Media Capture & Permissions

To participate in live classes, users may be requested to grant browser permissions for camera and microphone access. Media streams are processed in real-time solely for transmission to other authorized room participants.

  • Teacher Media Rights: Authorized teachers are granted room administration rights, allowing them to publish audio, video, and screen share streams, manage student participant states, and conclude live sessions for all participants.
  • Student Media Rights: Students are granted participant access to receive teacher streams and publish microphone or camera input when enabled by the host teacher. Students do not possess administrative or moderation privileges within live rooms.
  • Guest Restrictions: Unauthenticated guests or unauthorized third parties are strictly prohibited from connecting to live classroom sessions.

3. Automated Attendance Tracking & Heartbeat Scoring

Consisto Meet automatically computes student classroom attendance using an integrated 30-second cryptographic heartbeat loop:

  • Join Events: Joining a live class registers a timestamped join event in the platform's database (`meet_attendance`).
  • Presence Pulses: While active in the classroom, the client emits heartbeat signals at 30-second intervals to verify active presence and calculate continuous participation time (`duration_seconds`).
  • Attendance Scoring: Final attendance is calculated against scheduled class duration:
    • Present: Assigned when participation reaches or exceeds 75% of the scheduled class duration.
    • Partial: Assigned when participation is between 40% and 74.99% of the scheduled class duration.
    • Absent: Assigned when participation is below 40% or no heartbeat pulse is recorded.

4. Screen Sharing & Classroom Conduct

Screen sharing functionality is restricted to host teachers for instructional purposes. Teachers must ensure that shared content is strictly relevant to the curriculum and compliant with our Acceptable Use Policy.

All participants must adhere to standards of academic conduct. Disruptive behavior, unauthorized stream grabbing, offensive audio/video broadcasts, or attempts to intercept classroom media streams will result in immediate removal and disciplinary action under our Community Ban Policy.

5. Room Events & Metadata Logging

To ensure operational reliability and auditability, Consisto maintains event logs for live sessions (`meet_logs` and `meet_events`). Logged metadata includes room lifecycle events (created, started, ended, cancelled), join/leave timestamps, participant count totals, and peak concurrent student counts. Live audio and video streams are not recorded unless explicitly configured for institutional archiving.
